Why UK reputation work starts with the right route.

A UK search result rarely has one problem. Press coverage, review profiles, Reddit threads, social posts and AI summaries can all rank for the same name, and each one answers to different rules: the platform’s own policies, English defamation law, the UK GDPR or simple editorial judgment.

English law gives you real tools. A defamatory statement has to cause serious harm, website operators have a formal notice process for anonymous posts and the UK GDPR gives a right to erasure in set cases. But a court claim can be slow and public, and plenty of damaging content is lawful. That is why we treat legal routes as one lever among several, never the only one.

The United Kingdom is one of our active service areas. We work with companies, executives, professionals and public figures who need page one to reflect who they are, without drawing more attention to the problem.

  • Removal at the source where a policy or legal ground exists
  • Suppression for lawful content that cannot come down
  • Accurate profiles, coverage and AI answers built in their place
  • Every client signs an NDA, and so do we

The situations UK clients bring to us.

Every case is different, but these are the problems that tend to shape a UK search result for a person or a brand.

Anonymous posts and forum threads

Threads that accuse you of fraud or worse, written by people who hide their identity, can rank for your name for years. We start with platform channels and, where it fits, the notice process for website operators.

Old press coverage

An article about a dispute that ended years ago can still lead your results. Depending on the facts, publisher outreach, a data protection request or suppression may move it.

Fake reviews on Trustpilot and Google

A cluster of fake or defamatory reviews can pull down the score buyers check first. We report policy-violating reviews strictly within each platform’s own rules.

Coordinated attacks on professionals

Clinicians, consultants and founders are sometimes targeted by campaigns built to rank next to their name. See how we handled one for a London surgeon.

Impersonation accounts

Fake profiles that use your name or photos on X, Instagram or TikTok damage trust in you. We take down impersonation accounts through the platform’s own channels.

AI summaries repeating the claim

Google AI Overviews and assistants like ChatGPT can repeat an outdated or false claim as fact. We work on the sources they rely on, so the answer follows.

Platforms where we protect reputations

The UK legal framework behind online reputation.

These rules often decide what can come down in England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own defamation laws. This is general information, not legal advice.

Serious harm is the threshold for defamation

Under section 1 of the Defamation Act 2013, a statement is not defamatory unless its publication has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm to the claimant’s reputation. For a business that trades for profit, that means serious financial loss, actual or likely. Defenses include truth, honest opinion and publication on a matter of public interest. [1] [2] [12] [13]

Website operators have a notice process for anonymous posts

Section 5 gives a website operator a defense for statements posted by others, but it can fall away if the claimant cannot identify the poster, sends a notice of complaint and the operator does not respond as the regulations require. Under those regulations, the operator generally has 48 hours to pass the complaint to the poster or, if it has no way to contact them, to remove the statement. [3] [4]

Claims normally have to start within one year

A libel or slander claim normally has to be brought within one year, usually counted from first publication, although a court can allow a late claim in some cases. When the same publisher repeats the same statement, the clock does not usually restart. [5] [14] [6]

The UK GDPR right to erasure

Under Article 17 of the UK GDPR, people can ask an organization to erase their personal data in set cases, for example when it is no longer necessary, was processed unlawfully or the person successfully objects. The right does not apply where processing is necessary for freedom of expression and information, among other exceptions, so it does not reach every article. [7]

Some online abuse is a crime

Harassment and stalking can be criminal offenses in England and Wales. Since 31 January 2024, the Online Safety Act 2023 has also made it an offense to send a message threatening death or serious harm, or one the sender knows is false and intends to cause non-trivial harm. [8] [11] [9] [10]

Questions about reputation management in United Kingdom.

Cannot find what you are looking for? Send us your question and we answer within one business day.

Send your question
How much does online reputation management cost in the UK?

It depends on what ranks, how many results are involved and which routes apply. For content removal, you are billed only when the URL is verified offline. For ongoing reputation management, the first month is contingent on the strategy we deliver in week one: if you do not see the path forward, you do not pay.

Can you remove defamatory content under UK law?

In some cases, yes. Many platforms remove content that breaks their own rules without any court involvement, and website operators have a formal notice process for anonymous posts. Where a statement is lawful, such as accurate reporting or honest opinion, we tell you so and focus on suppression instead.

How long does it take to see results?

It depends on the platform and the route. Removals can move faster than suppression, which builds over time: many results move within a few months, while deeply entrenched content takes longer. Your written plan sets out realistic timelines before any work begins.

Can I use the UK GDPR to get search results removed?

In some cases. The right to erasure applies in set situations, such as data that is no longer necessary or was processed unlawfully, and it gives way to freedom of expression and information. We assess whether a request has real grounds before we file it.

Is reputation management legal in the UK?

Yes. We use legitimate methods: platform reporting, publisher outreach, data protection requests, legal channels where there are valid grounds and suppression by strengthening accurate content. We do not fabricate reviews or deceive platforms.

Is the work confidential?

Yes. Every client signs an NDA, and so do we. Case studies are published only with the client’s consent and permission.
