Online reputation management in San Diego

In San Diego, most customers meet your business through a map listing, a star rating and page one of Google. We remove fake and defamatory reviews at the source, clean up the listings you no longer control and rebuild what people see when they search your name.

Why star ratings decide the day in San Diego.

San Diego’s economy leans on visitors, life sciences and a large military community, and all three choose businesses by searching. A visitor picks a restaurant or a tour from the map, a patient compares clinics by their rating and a newcomer to the city books a contractor from the reviews. A few fake one-star reviews or a competitor’s smear page can cost a local business more than any ad can win back.

Most of that damage sits on a handful of platforms: Google Business Profile, Yelp, Trustpilot, Facebook and Reddit. Each has its own rules, and California has its own laws on reviews and deadlines. San Diego businesses get the same process as our clients across the United States, and we start with what can be removed under those rules, not with threats.

  • Fake and policy-breaking reviews removed at the source
  • Old or duplicate Google Business Profiles cleaned up
  • Competitor smear pages and false posts handled through the right channel
  • No retainer, no setup fee for content removal

What San Diego businesses bring to us.

Local reputation problems are rarely one big story. They are a few results in the wrong place at the moment someone decides.

Fake one-star reviews

A burst of reviews from people who were never customers drags the rating down on maps listings and review sites. Each one is checked against the platform’s own rules, and those that break them can be reported.

A listing you no longer control

An old or duplicate Google Business Profile keeps collecting reviews you cannot answer. We handle Google Business Profile removal so it stops showing in Search and Maps.

Smear pages from competitors

A page or profile built to make your business look like a scam, often on a free site, ranking for your brand name.

A Reddit thread about one bad visit

One emotionally charged thread can outrank years of good service, especially for clinics, wellness centers and tour operators.

Local news that never updates

A story about a dispute or an inspection keeps ranking long after the issue was resolved, with no follow-up.

Facebook posts in community groups

Posts warning neighbors away from your business, shared across local groups and ranking for your name. Some can be removed through Facebook’s own channels.

Platforms where we protect reputations

The California rules that shape local reviews.

General information on California law, not legal advice. Media Removal is not a law firm, and before taking a review dispute to court you should speak with a licensed California attorney.

Contracts cannot ban customer reviews

Civil Code section 1670.8 says a contract for the sale or lease of consumer goods or services may not include a provision that waives the consumer’s right to make any statement about the seller, and it is unlawful to threaten to enforce one or penalize a consumer for a protected statement. Violations carry civil penalties of up to $2,500 for a first violation and $5,000 for each later one, and up to $10,000 more when willful, intentional or reckless. At the federal level, the Consumer Review Fairness Act makes such clauses void in standard-form consumer contracts. The California section also says it does not stop a site that hosts reviews from removing a statement that is otherwise lawful to remove, so the route against a bad review is the platform’s rules, not the fine print. [1] [8]

False statements that hurt a business

Under Civil Code section 46, a false spoken statement that injures someone in their office, profession, trade or business is one of the kinds of slander California treats as actionable, and section 45a treats a written statement that is defamatory on its face as libel without proof of special damages. A review that states false facts, such as a made-up health violation, is different from an honest complaint about slow service. [2] [3]

One year to file, counted from publication

Code of Civil Procedure section 340(c) gives one year to file an action for libel or slander, and under the single publication rule in Civil Code section 3425.3 a person has only one cause of action for any single publication. If a court route is on the table, the clock matters. Our California defamation law guide explains the details. [4] [5]

Correction demands for news coverage

For a libel in a daily or weekly news publication, Civil Code section 48a limits a plaintiff to special damages unless they serve a written correction demand within 20 days of learning of the statement. For an outdated local story, a factual correction request to the publisher is often the first step anyway. [6]

A local economy built on visitors and life sciences

The City of San Diego’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget profile reports that visitors to San Diego County spent an estimated $14.4 billion in 2025, with total visitation of 32.4 million, and that the county’s life science workforce was over 61,000 direct employees. It also notes that the defense and military industries play a significant role in the local economy. [7]

Send your question
What does it cost to clean up a San Diego business’s reviews?

Your free review prices each item, because three fake Yelp reviews and an old Google listing are very different jobs. For content removal, you are billed only when the URL is verified offline, with no retainer and no setup fee. For ongoing reputation management, the first month is contingent on the strategy we deliver in week one. If you do not see the path forward, you do not pay.

Can you remove negative Google or Yelp reviews?

We can remove reviews that break the platform’s rules, for example fake reviews, reviews from people who were never customers, harassment or false statements of fact. An honest negative review from a real customer usually stays up, and we tell you which ones qualify before any work begins.

Can I add a no-bad-reviews clause to my contracts?

No. California’s Civil Code section 1670.8 makes clauses that waive a consumer’s right to talk about a business unlawful and carries civil penalties, and the federal Consumer Review Fairness Act voids review gag clauses in standard-form consumer contracts. Removal through platform rules is the legal route.

A competitor is posting fake reviews about us. What can we do?

Fake reviews break the rules of every major review platform. We document the pattern, report it through the right channel and, where it fits, point you to the legal options a licensed attorney can review.

Will removing a few reviews actually change our rating?

Often, especially on profiles with few reviews, because every fake one-star review weighs on the average. In one of our case studies, two removals moved a Trustpilot profile from 4.4 to 4.8 stars across 294 reviews. Timing depends on each platform’s moderation, and your assessment gives an estimate for each review.

Will you mention our business in your marketing?

Not without your consent. Every client signs an NDA, and so do we, and our case studies are published only with the client’s permission, often without naming them.
